I am a huge preacher of making commitments and sticking to them. Big, bold commitments such as: "I will be financially free in 2 years", "I will make Partner in three years", "I will create the relationship I dream about", "I will run an iron man in 3 months"...
Having said that, I also believe that the above without micro commitments, is wishful thinking.
I believe our recurrent habits are the nitty gritty of our overarching dreams. They are the proof we are investing our resources where our mouth is.
Examples of routines which support bigger commitments are: hold a daily gratitude journal, spend 3 hours with a mentor, exercise 30 min a day, spend one hour a day on business development activities...
My most recent is blogging twice a week for the next year no matter what.
This is what I am doing right this moment. I've given myself a deadline of posting my first article by the end of Wednesday each week. It is now 7:00 pm and up until 6:30 pm I've been dreading and avoiding this task not knowing what I was going to write about.
I still sat in front of my computer screen knowing I had to post something; anything.
What you are reading is the result of that process.
To me, as long as I stick to my routines, I will follow through on my commitments and eventually I will make my dream come true. Perfection is the enemy of progress. I would much rather follow through on my commitments imperfectly then drop out. By doing that, I am setting the right habit and I know it will eventually get easier, I will get better and it will pay off.
So excuse me if this post is not of the highest caliber. I still hope it will inspire you to follow through on whatever you must do to reach your aspirations.
Remember, an intimidating goal is no else then a series of steps.
Whatever you are feeling does not matter, just take the step!
